ABOUT EMILE LAUZZANA

Emile Lauzzana is currently the Executive Director of Capital Projects for Ann Arbor Public Schools. The District serves over students in 32 schools and other facilities totaling 3.5M square feet. He oversees $70M in annually capital projects from the district\'s sinking fund and capital bond funds. He was previously the Director, of Community for Michigan, U.S. Green Building Council, where he worked to support the mission of the USGBC to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life. Previously, Lauzzana was the Director of Energy and Sustainability at Detroit Public Schools. He directed utility cost savings initiatives designed to improve learning environments in the district’s 96 schools and 12 support facilities. The district operates over 10 million square feet of facilities with annual utility expenditure of $20 million. Prior to working at DPS, he founded and was Executive Director of Energy Works Michigan, a nonprofit organization with a $3 million annual budget that provided technical resources for K-12 schools in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and education. Lauzzana has worked in the design and construction industry for over 30 years and is a licensed architect and United States Green Building Council LEED accredited professional. Projects have included institutional, municipal, commercial, and residential facilities – all with a focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainability. He has taught building science and sustainable design at the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University. He frequently presents at conferences and represents organizations in the media. He was born in Detroit and resides in Ann Arbor, MI along with his wife and two children.
