ABOUT EMANUELA CANZANO
With an Honors degree in Orthoptics and Ophthalmic Assistance obtained in 2006 in Italy, coupled with 17 years of professional experience, I have honed my expertise through a versatile blend of orthoptics and optometry practices. Proficient in multitasking within the ophthalmological domain, I have pursued international master\'s programs and specialized courses to augment my skills in optometry, diagnosing and treating ocular motility disorders and eye surgery. My comprehensive knowledge encompasses diverse aspects, including assessing various types of strabismus, genetic syndromes, neurological conditions, thyroid eye diseases, and an array of ophthalmologic examinations. My proficiency extends to operating advanced ophthalmic equipment and technologies, such as OCT, fluor-angiography, Matrix, I Desing, corneal mapping, IoL Master, microperimetry, visual field tests, tonometry, and slit-lamp examinations. Further enriching my experience, I worked for four years in a private optical store in Italy, acquiring skills in refractive assessments, retinoscopy, prism prescription, and diagnostic contact lens application for corneal disorders like keratoconus. During my tenure in Ireland, I specialized in Laser surgery, contributing to my adeptness with systems like Intralase IFS Laser, STAR S4 IR Excimer Laser, and WaveScan-Front. Continuously pursuing knowledge expansion, I ventured into fluorescein sodium cannulation and injection, deepening my expertise in Fluorescein Angiography. Leading the surgical services of the Eye Department at Blackrock Clinic for two years, I also undertook the role of tutor, providing guidance to new staff members and facilitating training in ophthalmic equipment utilization and surgical procedures. At my current position with WCM, I not only contribute as an adept orthoptist but also serve as a mentor to fellow professionals and residents. My responsibilities encompass orthoptic assessments, accurate strabismus measurements, and precise prism prescriptions. My journey has equipped me with a comprehensive skill set, blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on expertise to excel in the dynamic field of ophthalmology.
