About Elvin Bucu
As a first-generation, American-born son of two Filipino parents, Elvin recognizes the unique opportunities he was granted and strives to support a system of equity, inclusion, and opportunity for others. In his most recent roles with the Foundation for Tacoma Students (FFTS), he advanced educational and professional outcomes for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) youth by aligning the systems surrounding them, from healthcare and housing, to college and career. Prior to joining FFTS, Elvin served as Director of Operations for the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound. His deep belief in a team culture driven by authentic relationships and a common “why” fueled his organizational development strategies—including the implementation of more culturally responsive and representative practices and policies. This work led to his receiving the 40 Under 40 Award by the South Sound Business Journal, but his favorite form of recognition remains the hand-drawn “You Rock” cup given to him by a former Club kid. In a parallel life, Elvin is an accomplished musician. He learned to read music before words, was awarded a music scholarship to the University of Washington, and has played piano, guitar, and drums in a variety of bands. He was also a founding member of Blue Thunder, the official drumline for the Seattle Seahawks. Go Hawks!
