The dean is the chief administrative and academic officer of the School of Dentistry with responsibility for its strategic, research, academic, clinical, and business affairs. As part of Marquette’s leadership team, the dean works closely with Marquette senior leaders and the other deans to support education, clinical work, research, and inter-professional education. The dean has overall responsibilities for developing an inclusive and collegial environment that supports DEI efforts and excellence in teaching, research, practice, and service. The dean maintains strong ties with alumni, the community, local and state governments with regards to dentistry and dental education, and national accreditation and dental education associations.

ABOUT ELSBETH KALENDERIAN
Elsbeth Kalenderian received her DDS-degree in 1983 from Rijks Universiteit Groningen, The Netherlands. She moved to Boston as a Fulbright Scholar, completing her residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Boston University in 1986. In 1989, she received a Master’s in Public Health from Harvard. In 2013 she obtained a PhD degree from the University of Amsterdam. In 2007, she made the transition to an academic career at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, starting as Assistant Dean for Clinical Affairs and rising to Associate Professor, Chair of the Department of Oral Health Policy and Epidemiology and Chief of Quality for the Harvard Dental Clinic. In 2016 she became Chair of the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences and Leland A. & Gladys K. Barber Distinguished Professor in Dentistry at UCSF School of Dentistry. She was appointed as full Professor in Dentistry at the Academic Centre Dentistry Amsterdam as of August 2021 and served as Dean 8/21 - 8/22. In August 2023 she was appointed as Dean and Professor at Marquette University School of Dentistry, Milwaukee, WI.Dr. Kalenderian has published more than 100 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and is frequently asked to be a speaker at conferences for Quality Improvement, Dental Diagnostic Terminologies, Meaningful Use, Leadership, and Patient Safety.
