ABOUT ELSA CARLA D.

I am a remote sensing specialist with a PhD in forest remote sensing from the University of Edinburgh and a strong academic foundation in Physical Geography (BSc, 1st) and Applied Remote Sensing (MSc, Distinction). My career spans academia, industry, and the conservation sector, with experience ranging from postdoctoral research on Amazon peatlands to several years in the Earth Observation industry at GMV.Since 2022, I have been leading remote sensing activities at Fauna & Flora, supporting Nature-based Solutions projects across a global conservation portfolio. My technical expertise includes satellite data processing and analysis, machine learning applications and geospatial analysis. I also work extensively with Python and R for geospatial data analysis and visualisation.I bring strong organisational skills, proactive problem‑solving, and the ability to manage complex workflows and priorities. My communication experience spans peer‑reviewed publications, technical reports, conference presentations, and teaching roles in physical geography, GIS, and remote sensing at the University of Edinburgh.I have worked across consultancy, research centres, academia, and NGOs, with additional experience in terrestrial and blue carbon methodologies and proposal development for ESA, EU H2020, Innovate UK, Darwin Innovation, Satellite Applications Catapult, and the World Bank to name a few. I thrive in international, multidisciplinary environments and am passionate about applying Earth Observation to support climate and nature based solutions.
