About Elliot Imani Griffin
Elliot Imani Griffin is an associate in the Litigation Department who focuses her practice on labor and employment matters. In her practice, she represents employers in federal and state court actions involving discrimination, retaliation, harassment, restrictive covenants, and breach of contract claims. She also assists employers with developing workplace policies and drafting employee handbooks. Elliot also advises higher education institutions about traditional labor matters including union organizing campaigns and unfair labor practices. She represents universities and affiliated health care institutions in grievance arbitrations involving disputes regarding employee discipline and contract interpretation. Recently, she participated in an investigation of the City of Philadelphia after a third party group revealed thousands of inappropriate social media posts made by active duty and former Philadelphia police officers identified in a database from the highly-publicized Plain View Project. Elliot conducted an analysis of each post and advised on whether discipline was warranted or if the post was protected by the First Amendment. During law school, Elliot interned with Exelon Corporation, a Fortune 100 energy company, where she researched recent National Labor Relations Board decisions to assess how they would impact Exelon\'s policies. She also wrote demand letters to address fake websites that were allegedly infringing upon the mark of Exelon and its subsidiaries, drafted motions, and assisted in the preparation for Pennsylvania Utility Commission hearings. Elliot worked at Ballard Spahr as a summer associate where she drafted memos, conducted background research of plaintiff experts, and edited and updated chapters of an eDiscovery text book.Elliot maintains an active pro bono practice, serving as a child advocate for children who have been adjudicated dependent by the Philadelphia Family Court. She also represents inmates in prisoner civil rights litigation. Prior to law school, Elliot worked in crisis communications and government relations. In that role, she created and implemented communications plans for clients across the country and monitored local and state legislation pertaining to client’s interests.
