About Ellie Acosta
My path to political communications began in the classroom. As a teacher and instructional aide, I worked closely with students and families and saw firsthand how policy decisions shape access to education, resources and opportunity. Those experiences developed in me a deep sense of empathy and responsibility, and pushed me to think beyond the classroom toward the systems that determine what students are able to achieve. I am currently a Public Relations student at the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communications with a focus in Political Science, pursuing a career in political communications. I am especially passionate about education policy and reform, and I see strategic communication as one of the most powerful tools for advancing equitable policy. Rather than remaining in education directly, I chose to build skills that allow me to influence policy conversations and support leaders and organizations working toward systemic change.Through my leadership in UO PRSSA, serving as Vice President and former Communications Director, I have led branding initiatives, managed digital strategy, grown social media audiences and collaborated with students, faculty and administrators to provide professional development opportunities for our members. I also bring hands-on experience in content creation, visual storytelling, analytics-driven messaging and fast-paced communications environments through my work in journalism and campus media.I am motivated by work that connects policy to people. I thrive in collaborative settings and enjoy translating complex issues into clear, compelling messages that build trust and drive action. Looking ahead, I am eager to pursue opportunities in political communications, campaign management or government offices- particularly roles that focus on education policy, equity and community engagement.
