Field Research Coaching was created out of a need for a more personalized and in-depth training on what to expect when embarking on a research project and how to deal with the many unpredictable challenges you will encounter along the way. Universities and other research institutes are increasingly confronted with burned-out and traumatized researchers. Receiving the right training and coaching will help to navigate these challenges.Ellen Van Damme, PhD, founded Field Research Coaching in 2023. She has over 10 years of field research experience in Africa, Europe, North and South America. She forms part of the Researcher Resilience CoP and Women Doing Fieldwork Network, and is a regular speaker at international conferences, workshops and seminars where she talks about her field research. She has published multiple academic articles, book chapters and blogposts on the challenges of doing field research, and shares her experiences through podcast interviews. With roots in academics, consulting, and applied fieldwork, she also applies a mindfulness lens drawing from her practice as a yoga teacher and certified Mental Health First Aider. Ellen lives in Los Angeles, where she combines her work as a coach and research consultant with her passion for the ocean and mountains.
