BS3 Community Development was founded in 1991 to improve the lives of people living in BS3 and the surrounding area. Bringing together and supporting the local community through initiatives such as social prescribing, community connections, food clubs, meet ups and welcoming warm space. BS3 also runs two early years nursery centres and a cafe as profitable services.BS3 Community Development is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee and as a social business we reinvest surplus generated from our profitable services into educational, arts, environmental, health and wellbeing projects that we either run directly or support partners to deliver.As a Trustee for the charity it is an interesting blend of managing the income streams including EYFS site and cafe and ensuring this feeds into the Charitable objectives and maintains support of the local community. Supporting the community team to ensure it makes the most of its limited resources in benefitting the most vulnerable communities with activities such as clubs, activities, social prescribing and safe space. Helping to ensure both financial stability and assessing the effectiveness of projects. Working with team leads to ensure they have they understand the commercial impact of its decisions and working to support new revenue streams. Overall being part of the board of Trustees has developed my understanding of the unique challenges of a third sector organisation, working in an environment with limited resources.
