ABOUT ELLE SYPEK
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works as an EMDR trained, animal assisted clinician within the United States with individuals and their families who have experienced trauma while also serving as a clinical consult for multiple non-profit organizations in global mental health, I firmly believe that mental wellness across age, gender, and geographic location is rooted in authentic relationships, centered through culturally responsive intervention, and led by members of the local community. While my career focus stems partly from my Masters of Social Work degree from Loyola University Chicago, I have supplemented this degree with the completion of The Harvard Program in Refugee Trauma Global Mental Health: Trauma and Recovery Certificate Program. To support such learning, I have worked in a variety of clinical settings throughout the world and have recently been named as both the Social Justice Leader of the Year for Strive Prep Schools as well as an alternate for the Rotary Club World Peace Fellowship. From working in direct practice as a clinician with individuals who have experienced trauma, publishing clinical research in Australia, serving for over ten years as the mental health program development expert at Aarti for Girls in India, and recently being asked to join the Board of Trustees as a clinical expert for The Zimbabwe Health Watch & Advocacy, my experience is rooted in both micro and macro level clinical work and program development. I firmly believe that accessibility to mental health care for children, youth, and adults is a matter of justice and I feel honored to work, learn, and lead within the social work and global mental health field.
