Queens, NY, US

For the CUNY Language Immersion Program, I teach academic English and critical thinking to US high school and GED graduates from all over the world who need to gain language and cultural skills to attend college. I prepare lessons and develop thematic curricula for classes of up to 25 people, helping them improve English skills, computer skills, self-advocacy, professional demeanor, time management, and study skills they need for college success. I continue to mentor students through graduation from QCC and into 4-year colleges, and counsel and act as a resource for them in life situations. My proudest moments are always when one of my students succeeds, whether that is learning to write an essay or getting a full scholarship to Columbia.

ABOUT ELIZA FASANELLA DAMORE

I believe that education is a human right, and as a passionate teacher of languages, I know that understanding language, culture, and academic systems is a foundation for success in life that can be transformational for underserved populations, their families, and their communities. I’m currently on the faculty of the CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP) and previously I’ve led language programs at The New School, and a Berlitz language center. I also created a new ESL program for nonprofit Sanctuary for Families. A hands-on advocate for students, I bring a multicultural and global perspective and am fiercely committed to helping my students tackle life challenges, embrace their full potential, get into college, and move up and forward. I hold an MA, TESOL (Adults) from The New School, an (all but thesis) MA in Bilingualism and Teaching ESL from Georgetown University, and a BA in Translation & Interpretation from the Sprachen-und- Dolmetscherinstitut in Munich. I’m a native speaker of German and French and a lifelong learner with a Certificate in Principles and Practices of Online Teaching and expertise in many classroom technologies from Blackboard to Zoom and the latest apps. If you would like to connect or if there is any way I can help you, please feel free to reach out.
