About Elizabeth Libby Hobbs
Hi, I’m Libby. I’m the cost of living reporter for the Tulsa Flyer, one of the American Journalism Project’s startup local nonprofit newsrooms. I cover all things to do with people’s wallets. How far is money going, and what are people doing to make ends meet? At the Flyer, we’re doing community-based journalism that informs and empowers Tulsans to make these decisions.Before moving to Oklahoma, I interned at The New York Times through the Dow Jones News Fund program. I edited and wrote headlines for the daily paper, ending with 21 front-page assignments. I stretched my news judgment and thought beyond style. Now I’m building on these skills to make my reporting say more with less. I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Georgia with a journalism degree, music minor, music business certificate and news literacy certificate. I am curious where resilience and hardship intersect, and how accurate, empathetic storytelling can spur change.
