Full responsibility for screening, accepting, and litigating civil cases for victims of domestic and sexual violence and other violent crime from the Hispanic/Latinx community to provide holistic services to clients mostly also receiving immigration services from MIA.Major practice areas include orders of protection, domestic violence divorces, and child custody and support in divorce and juvenile courts, with a small percentage of cases also requiring consumer or landlord/tenant assistance. Work in conjunction with clients’ immigration attorneys to ensure that team has a full picture of client’s legal needs. Litigation and management responsibilities include all aspects of file management and court appearances (no relief attorney available, as well as all drafting, filing and scheduling. Work with in-house Spanish speakers to handle complex communication with Spanish speaking clients. Teach CLE regarding domestic and sexual violence to promote MIA’s services in conjunction with private law firms for pro bono week.
