With 26 years plus experience in Innovation and R&D, I lead Intellectual Property policy and strategy at STFC-UKRI, overseeing IP across five sites and supporting engineers and scientists. I manage the IP portfolio, licensing activities, and proof-of-concept funding, while implementing systems to evaluate and monitor IP and ensuring alignment with commercial and stakeholder needs. I also lead a dedicated team handling IP searches, database management, and licensing.Skilled in stakeholder engagement, I navigate diverse perspectives to drive positive outcomes, leveraging strong communication and a decisive approach. My responsibilities include overseeing spinout policies, managing inventor awards, structuring spinout share agreements, and negotiating contracts and licensing terms. I advise on all IP matters, including contracts, international treaties, patenting, and infringement analysis, resolving complex issues across multiple jurisdictions. Additionally, I support high-growth campus companies through incubation, licensing, and IP strategy, connecting them with regional, national, and international frameworks to maximize innovation and economic impact within UKRI’s strategic framework.
