ABOUT ELIZABETH ROSE
I am passionate about helping others improve their skills and increase their impact. Through co-developing teaching and leadership training programs for university faculty and teaching public health and medical students, I hope to have a rippling effect to improve health and education outcomes in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and beyond. I believe that development projects should expand the capacity of the local community, be self-sustaining, and use monitoring and evaluation to learn from successes and failures. I have proven skillsets in educator preparation and curriculum development.I have a passion for working with university students, researchers, and faculty to empower them to be leaders in their communities and work teams. After experiencing transformation in my own leadership capacity as a student at Xavier University and witnessing the transformative power of leadership seminars for International Humphrey Fellowship scholars, I have become passionate about helping learners at all levels hone their inner leader. I am a Co-director of the Global Health track in the Vanderbilt University Master of Public Health (MPH) Program and a Global Health Education Specialist at the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health. I teach the MPH Capstone course and international clinical rotations for medical students, advise medical student research in global health, and co-lead the MPH Career Development Series. With our international colleagues, I develop courses and workshops on best practices in education, leadership, and mentorship for university faculty around the world, including in Mozambique, Nigeria, Zambia, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Pakistan. I regularly guest lecture on academic writing, research colonialism, and professional networking. I earned a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) with a concentration on Organizational Leadership Studies. My dissertation focused on research colonialism and the experiences of academic biomedical researchers in LMICs to learn more about their motivations, leadership development, perception of research culture, and impact from training programs.
