About Elizabeth Ordeman
I’m a Research Associate at CarbonDrop where I\'m developing marine carbon dioxide removal technology to tackle climate change. My experience spans synthetic biology, carbon sequestration, and global development, with a common thread of building science-based solutions for a sustainable future. Before CarbonDrop, I was at Switch Bioworks where my innovative work in the lab contributed to four provisional patents. Outside of the lab at Switch, I built international research partnerships to launch a biotech enabled fertilizer for smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa, paving the way for deployment in Kenya and Nigeria. Earlier, I worked at London-based Zulu Ecosystems where I developed software to predict carbon sequestration potential of land holdings and support ecosystem regeneration.I’m passionate about sustainability, women’s representation in STEM and entrepreneurship, and the power of biology to have a positive environmental and social impact. In my personal time, I compete for Team USA in triathlon and enjoy practicing my German and Spanish language skills. I hold an M.Eng. in Bioengineering and a B.S. in Genetics and Plant Biology from UC Berkeley.
