ABOUT ELIZABETH HUGHES
Attorney Elizabeth Hughes concentrates her practice to the areas of trust and estate litigation, including guardianship and mental health litigation. She has not only represented clients in such matters but has served and continues to serve as court appointed counsel, ad litem, estate curator, and guardian in Florida probate, trust, and guardianship matters. She currently serves as a Vice Chair of the Guardianship, Power of Attorney, and Advance Directive Committee of the Real Property Probate and Trust law section of the Florida Bar.Ms. Hughes has experience litigating and resolving will and trust contests, fiduciary fee disputes, determination of heir disputes, disputes over appointment of fiduciaries, removal of fiduciaries, surcharge actions, elective share disputes, and breaches of fiduciary obligations. She regularly assists individuals and clients serving as fiduciaries in reforming and construing wills and trusts, determining rights in wills and trusts, modifying trusts, as well as terminating trusts.Ms. Hughes advises clients in all guardianship and mental health litigation proceedings including disputes over incapacity and appointments as guardian. With a degree in Health Science and Rehabilitative Services and as a previously licensed Florida Certified Nursing Assistant, she brings unique knowledge to her representation of both professional and non professional guardians throughout guardianship administration and restoration proceedings. Ms. Hughes has experience representing both petitioners and respondents in Florida Marchman Act proceedings. She has also served as private counsel for alleged incapacitated persons, as well as wards. Ms. Hughes is a graduate of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) Florida Fellows Institute. She serves as co-chair of the Dade County Bar Association Probate and Guardianship Committee.
