About Elizabeth Pfeiffer

As a medical anthropologist, I have been asking questions about how social inequalities make people sick-and offering solutions about what we can do about them-in the United States (US) and Kenya. This has resulted in my commitment to the pursuit of global health equity. I am seeking new job opportunities that will build upon and extend my expertise in efforts that help to solve health-related problems in our shared world. Offering expertise in the social and behavioral aspects of global public health and health care, as well as in ethnographic, qualitative, and community-based participatory research design, implementation, analysis, and dissemination, I have a demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively to identify insights necessary to help improve the well-being of people and health-care delivery. As a university professor at a teaching-intensive institution, I am also an exceptional communicator with the ability to speak and write clearly for various audiences. For over ten years, I have been providing high quality teaching and mentoring to students and colleagues, writing about the influence of social inequalities on human health, and leading and collaborating on qualitative and mixed-methods research projects centered on the social determinants of health, HIV/AIDS, and reproductive, adolescent, and maternal/child health in both clinical and community settings in the US and Kenya. Further, I have conducted anthropological work and developed and directed study abroad programs that provide training in collaborative research methods in Jamaica. Through these experiences, I have acquired expertise in ethnographic, qualitative, and community-based participatory research design and implementation, conducting and documenting participant observation sessions, the capacity to conduct semi-structured, focus group, and life history interviews, as well as ethnographic and various types of qualitative, grounded theory, and discourse analyses. I have become an effective educator, project manager, and public speaker as the recipient of grants, awards, and invited talks. As the author of a book, co-editor of two literacy texts, and author/co-author of peer reviewed journal articles, I have also become a highly skilled writer.
