ABOUT ELIZABETH LAW
Holiday House is an award-winning children\'s publisher, founded more than 80 years ago. My role is primarily to develop backlist titles and authors such as Tomie dePaola, Gail Gibbons, Jim Kjelgaard and Trina Schart Hyman and bring them to new markets and audiences. In my personal business, Elawreads, I am a freelance book editor who specializes in children\'s, YA and memoir. I am also a coach and counselor to aspiring and mid-career writers. My website, linked below, talks about the services I offer and my background. I worked at Viking Penguin, and at Penguin’s divisions Puffin Books and Frederick Warne & Co, for 18 years, leaving to become Associate Publisher of Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers. And in 2007 I left there and became the first publisher of Egmont USA. At Egmont I got to help create a company from the ground up, which taught me, among other things, to think creatively about ways to get attention for books when you’re competing against other books\' huge marketing budgets. I truly enjoy helping authors and artists with their publishing dilemmas, and I specialize in helping writers get their books in shape before they are submitted to agents or to publishers.
