ABOUT ELIZABETH H. Z. THOMPSON

I am a scientist by training and a communicator by nature with more than two decades of progressive experience in the biopharma industry. With early-career building block roles across clinical development, business development and medical communications, I bring a broad view to drug development with insight into how to craft an impactful scientific story for investors, potential partners and regulators alike. As the primary investor-facing scientific voice of Horizon from 2020 until its acquisition by Amgen in late 2023, I\'m known for my ability to translate the value of science to investor audiences. During my time at Horizon, I oversaw rapid realization of the company\'s ambition to become a science-based biopharma, including more than a doubling of R&D spend and the acquisition and integration of Viela Bio, with its four clinical-stage compounds and strong early-stage scientific capabilities. My work in leading the filing and approval of TEPEZZA was pivotal groundwork for the first FDA-approved therapy for thyroid eye disease, bringing an important therapy to patients and a blockbuster product to Horizon. Throughout my career, I\'ve been blessed to work on life-changing medicines for rare, autoimmune and severe inflammatory diseases. With a focus on ‘practical innovation’ – recognizing that innovation comes in many forms, but all need to be feasible and focus on the patient experience – I am passionate and thoughtful about maximizing the potential of every molecule in my care. My track record includes significant acceleration of registrational pathways and thoughtful indication expansion as well as disciplined “no go” decisions.I know that - if I\'m going to have any impact on the biopharma ecosystem - it will be through supporting and advancing the careers of people around me. I\'m proud to have been named a 2021 Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association Luminary, which recognizes both dedication to the healthcare industry as well as serving as a role model and actively mentoring and sponsoring others.
