ABOUT ELIZABETH ALLEN

I’m in the fortunate phase of my life where I get to explore — not just new places but ideas, interests and issues I feel strongly about, as well. As a Fellow among the inaugural cohort of the University of Chicago’s Leadership and Society Initiative (LSI), a post-graduate program for retired executives, I will be finding my way on a new path — most likely toward a purpose I never considered before. That’s what the program asks us to do: not settle on a new chapter that is adjacent to our old one. Rather, the goal is to expose us to so many people and ideas that we find a new way, a new path to useful purpose. This program marks a welcome rejiggering of my life. For years, I was a successful communications and crisis communications executive. I helped leaders consider new points of view by exposing them to new ways of thinking. In my professional past that meant rebranding and communicating new messages to employees, customers, investors, regulators and policy makers across a range of industries. These businesses were often experiencing significant change and I helped them to be more competitive, profitable, customer centric and accessible. And while where I am headed won’t find me in the same lane as where I’ve been, I will pull from my experience and skills to help reframe in people\'s minds some of the major challenges facing our country — or at least consider a different way of thinking. While I gain new insights into myself and the world at large, I’ll be writing about and sharing my progress and thoughts here. I invite you to join me as I determine how we can lead change and make a difference.
