ABOUT ELIZABETH CAMPBELL
My research focuses on complementary uses of data science methods and non-traditional data sources to conventional epidemiological approaches in public health research. I study the application of data analytics and machine learning methods to the secondary use of electronic health record (EHR) data and other large healthcare datasets to characterize and predict diagnoses such as pediatric obesity. I work to conceptualize fairness in biomedical informatics research and assess bias in machine learning models within a healthcare context, with the goal to create the best possible tools to account for different populations and alleviate rather than entrench existing health system disparities. I plan to situate my future work in global health and health disparities outcomes research, and expand into other topics including climate change, agriculture, and environmental health.
