ABOUT ELIZABETH BRICKLEY
Elizabeth B. Brickley is a Professor in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM, London, UK), where she directs the Health Equity Action Lab an interdisciplinary team conducting policy-relevant community-engaged research that critically examines the links between human health, poverty, and the environment. Elizabeth’s primary research aim is to better understand and eliminate infectious causes of childhood disability, and her work has informed public health interventions targeting polio, Zika, and leprosy. Elizabeth is committed to cultivating equitable and respectful international research partnerships and to fostering an inclusive academic culture that embraces diversity. After graduating valedictorian from Greater Latrobe Senior High School (Latrobe, Pennsylvania) in 2006, Elizabeth earned her BA magna cum laude in Biology at Williams College (Williamstown, Massachusetts) in 2010. With the support of a Dr. Herchel Smith Fellowship, she then undertook two years of graduate study at the University of Cambridge (Cambridge, UK) where she earned two M.Phil. degrees with Distinction in the fields of human geography and epidemiology. Elizabeth was subsequently awarded a National Institutes of Health-Oxford Cambridge Scholars Fellowship that enabled her to pursue a PhD in infectious disease and vaccine epidemiology with joint affiliations at the Laboratory of Malaria Immunology & Vaccinology at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH/NIAID, Bethesda, Maryland, USA) and the Department of Public Health & Primary Care at the University of Cambridge. Elizabeth then joined Dartmouth College (Hanover, New Hampshire, USA) in 2016 for postdoctoral training in epidemiology and vaccinology. Elizabeth joined LSHTM as an Assistant Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology in October 2017. She was promoted to Associate Professor in August 2020, granted a permanent contract (tenure equivalent) in January 2022, and promoted to Professor in August 2022. Elizabeth was actively engaged in the COVID-19 public health responses. She also advises on vaccine safety as a member of both the WHO Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety (GACVS) Sub-committee on the Type 2 Novel Oral Poliovirus Vaccine (nOPV2) and the WHO Polio Data Safety and Monitoring Board.
