ABOUT ELIZABETH AKANBI
I am a Political Science student with a minor in Law and Society at the University of British Columbia. As the First-Year Representative for Black Future Lawyers UBC, I support initiatives that empower Black students pursuing legal careers. Through my academic experiences I have developed strong research, analytical, and critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively. Through my work as a swim instructor and aquatic supervisor, I have developed strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Teaching swim lessons has enhanced my ability to adapt instruction to diverse learning styles, ensuring safety and engagement. As an aquatic supervisor, I have honed my decision-making skills, overseeing operations, managing conflicts, and responding to emergencies with confidence. These roles have strengthened my ability to lead teams, provide clear guidance, and remain composed under pressure skills that are highly transferable to law, policy, and advocacy.
