About Elisabeth Mermann-Jozwiak

Elisabeth Mermann-Jozwiak completed four years as Provost at Bucknell University. Prior to this appointment, she served as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and Professor of English and Women’s & Gender Studies at Gonzaga University. In 20••••18 she served as Interim Academic Vice President. She holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Wisconsin and an MA in English and Catholic Theology from the University of Cologne, Germany. Prior to serving in this position, she was Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Haas Professor of English at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (20••••13), where she also served as inaugural Chair of the English Department (20••••05) and coordinator of the Women and Gender Studies minor. Her accomplishments at TAMU-CC include the creating a multi-disciplinary and inter-college Bachelor of Arts and Sciences program, chairing the board of the Women’s Center, and coordinating the University’s efforts to implement a University Preparatory High School. Her publications include two books, Postmodern Vernaculars: Chicana Literature and Postmodern Rhetoric and Conversations with Mexican American Writers: Languages and Literatures in the Borderlands, as well as numerous articles on Chicana literature, feminist theory, and popular culture. Dr. Mermann-Jozwiak won the College and University teaching awards. She is currently a member of the Committee on the Liberal Arts in the Council of Colleges of Arts and Sciences, of the Spokane Washington Humanities committee, and the Spokane Arts Council; she also serves on the Steering Committee of the Washington Consortium for the Liberal Arts.
