ABOUT ELIANA CARRANZA

I am the Global Lead for Labor and Skills in the Social Protection and Labor (SPL) Global Practice at the World Bank. In this role, I advise governments and World Bank teams across regions on employment strategies, labor market systems, and skills development. I lead high-level policy dialogue, analytical programs, and the design of investment operations aimed at expanding access to good jobs and improving employment outcomes. I also anchor strategic collaborations with partners across academia, the private sector, NGOs, and international organizations to advance cutting-edge analytics, pilot programs, and financing mechanisms that support labor and skills interventions at scale. I’ve worked across South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East and North Africa. My research on labor markets, skills, and gender has been published in Econometrica, the American Economic Review, American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, and the Review of Economics and Statistics. I am a non-resident Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) in Bonn and previously served as an Adjunct Lecturer at the Harvard Kennedy School. I hold a PhD in Political Economy and Government (Economics) and an MPA in International Development, both from Harvard University.
