About Elia Bonetto
I am currently an ML Scientist at Cartesian Systems, where I build indoor spatial AI to streamline retail operations, now working primarily with RFID-based sensing. I received my Ph.D. from the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems as part of the prestigious IMPRS-IS program.Throughout my career, I have explored the connection between perception and action, with a consistent focus on building spatial understanding of the world. My earlier work centered on vision-based methods, particularly Active SLAM and SLAM in dynamic environments, with a strong interest in bridging the sim-to-real (and synthetic-to-real) gap. I now apply similar principles using RFID technology, shifting from robotic embodiment to systems that generate actionable insights and information for people.Outside of research, I enjoy learning about finance and investing, cooking (I am still perfecting my BBQ skills), hiking, skiing, and watching movies.
