About Eli Newell
My long-term objective is to improve agricultural and economic prosperity with innovations in agronomy and livestock systems, environmentally responsible resource management, and community-engaged approaches. My experience spans fertilizer and feed development, greenhouse and field trials, and feasibility studies in East Africa and Latin America. I’m skilled in R, Stata, QGIS, and mixed-method research, and I enjoy turning complex data into insights that drive innovation and development. Above all, I enjoy building the relationships and networks underlying collaborative research, engagement, and implementation.Currently, I am working to advance a circular bioeconomy in California\'s North San Joaquin Valley with UCANR Innovate, the innovation arm of the University of California\'s Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources (UCANR). The BioCircular Valley (BioCirV) project I support aims to reduce burdensome waste streams from agriculture and food processing, get more revenue to farmers and food processors, and lead to investment in workforce development, technologies, and industries that can make use of those waste streams. Specifically, the BioCirV team analyzes available agricultural and food processing byproducts and waste products, identifies conversion pathways to higher-value feedstocks or products, and builds models to predict feedstock performance and connect users with sources through a public-facing portal.
