ABOUT ELI GILSOHN

I am an intellectual property executive who focuses on aligning a company’s IP strategy with its business strategy to help turn a scientific vision into a business reality. As a patent attorney holding a Ph.D. in molecular genetics and an MBA specializing in biomedical management, I am particularly fascinated with how the role of an IP strategy evolves throughout a biotech company’s life cycle. I have been fortunate enough to have managed IP portfolios of biotech and pharma companies of various sizes, both as an in-house patent counsel and in private-practice firms in the UK and Israel. Through this diverse experience I’ve learned how a patent portfolio of an early-stage biotech start-up company, for example, might play a substantially different role tothat of a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company. I mainly enjoy using this diverse background and experience to adapt a company’s IP strategy as the company grows and changes, and further enjoy bridging scientific, business and legal functions within the company in order to achieve this goal. Keywords: IP management, global patent prosecution, patent drafting, patentability, patent landscaping, IP strategy, oppositions, business development, molecular biology, cellular biology, developmental biology, molecular genetics, pre-clinical research.
