ABOUT ELEKTRA M.
With a passion for leveraging AI to enhance healthcare and precision medicine, I completed an MSc in Public Health Data Science at Boston University on a scholarship. My research involved machine learning to identify unrecognized COVID-19 deaths reported under other causes in the US under Prof. Andrew Stokes\' mentorship. I previously obtained a BSc in Artificial Intelligence from the Computer Science Department, Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam. My undergraduate thesis, under the mentorship of Prof. Mark Hoogendoorn, explored cardiometabolic diseases and depression comorbidities using machine learning on the NESDA cohort. It highlighted behavioral factors\' significance in developing CVD and diabetes among depressed individuals. I designed, evaluated, and interpreted the predictions of models like Logistic Regression, Random Forests, and XGBoost, presenting findings to an interdisciplinary audience at Amsterdam\'s University Medical Center. Driven by research enthusiasm, I pursued computational biology internships at MIT\'s CSAIL and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, focusing on single-cell data analysis while working remotely during the pandemic. Proficient in R, Python, data science, statistical analysis, machine learning, and natural language processing, I apply these skills to biomedical and health data. Born in Boston, I\'m fluent in English, Greek, and German, and learning Italian and Turkish. I adapt seamlessly to diverse environments. Committed to social justice and equity, I aim to use AI for innovative disease diagnosis and treatment methods, making healthcare and precision medicine more accessible and affordable. As a lifelong learner, I continuously seek challenges for personal and professional growth, aspiring to pursue research at the PhD level.
