Dr. Eleftherios (Lefteris) Mylonakis is Chair of the Department of Medicine at Houston Methodist Hospital, a U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll hospital. He leads 12 academic divisions and 17 clinical service lines, focusing on faculty development, clinical innovation, research strategy, and education. He holds the Charles and Anne Duncan Presidential Distinguished Chair and serves as Professor of Medicine at both Weill Cornell Medical College and the Houston Methodist Academic Institute.Previously, he was the Charles C.J. Carpenter Professor of Infectious Disease at Brown University, where he served as Chief of Infectious Diseases, Director of the COBRE Center for Antimicrobial Resistance and Therapeutic Discovery, and Assistant Dean for Outpatient Investigations. Earlier in his career, he was an attending physician at Massachusetts General Hospital and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School.As a practicing infectious diseases physician, Dr. Mylonakis cares for patients with complex infections, antimicrobial resistance, and transplant-related complications. He is deeply committed to mentoring and education, building pathways that support the next generation of physicians and physician–scientists. His research integrates translational science, data science, machine learning/AI, high-throughput screening, and clinical trials. He has published more than 500 peer-reviewed papers, co-edited 7 books, and holds 8 patents, with his work cited over times.Dr. Mylonakis is passionate about fostering collaboration, innovation, and mentorship, and about working across disciplines to improve patient care, strengthen wellness across the continuum of health, and advance academic medicine in a sustainable way.
