About Eleeza Agopian
I am a seasoned policy researcher with substantial experience managing international development projects. I started my career in journalism before moving into democracy assistance work. My project management experience has ranged from leading U.S. Government-funded media development projects in the former Soviet Union to coordinating across ICANN\'s multistakeholder community to produce and commission detailed research on topics as varied as consumer trust in the domain name marketplace to the stability of the root server system. Currently, I manage a team responsible for strategic and cross-functional efforts on topics as varied as data protection/privacy issues, DNS abse, and other registration data issues. During my years in Washington, DC, I managed USAID- and State Department-funded grants and contracts aimed at enhanced media capacity in Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia and Lebanon. In my role at IREX, I managed teams across the organization both in the home office and abroad. My time in Washington also provided me the opportunity to work with several organizations focused on freedom of speech and media development around the globe. Prior to my work in international development, I spent four years as a reporter and copy editor for the Orange County Register. My undergraduate degree in political science and communication led to a master\'s degree in communication, culture and technology from Georgetown University. My master\'s thesis - which earned the mark of distinction from the evaluation committee - focused on electronic media\'s influence on democratic development, with a particular focus on Armenia.
