ABOUT ELDRIAN THO

a biotechnologist and molecular microbiologist fascinated by how viruses, fungi, and tumour cells hijack host pathways to evade immune surveillance, reprogram gene expression, and manipulate cellular machinery. I’m passionate about translating these mechanistic insights into innovative therapies, viral vectors, and gene-based medicines.🧬 I am an MSAT Associate Scientist at MeiraGTx, supporting gene therapy manufacturing and viral vector process development. My work contributes to the optimisation, troubleshooting, and scale-up of AAV-based therapeutic production — bridging molecular biology expertise with real-world bioprocessing and advanced therapy manufacturing. I completed my MSc in Molecular Biology and the Pathology of Viruses at Imperial College London, where I identified novel E3 ubiquitin ligase regulators of the OAS antiviral pathway using CRISPR-Cas9 editing, viral infection assays, and AlphaFold protein–protein interaction modelling.During my BSc (Hons) Biotechnology at the University of Aberdeen, I investigated DNA repair pathways, discovering how TOP1 deletion rescues camptothecin hypersensitivity in rif1Δ sen1-1 yeast, highlighting cooperative roles in maintaining genome integrity.🧠 • Innate immunity & host–pathogen interactions • Gene therapy, AAV manufacturing, viral vectors & personalised medicine• DNA damage response & genome stability • Medical mycology & fungal pathogenesis • Vaccines, RNA therapeutics & translational immunology I’m dedicated to science communication, mentoring, and community-building, with leadership experience in Malaysian Bioscience Scholars (MBIOS) and outreach initiatives at Aberdeen and Imperial. I enjoy transforming complex scientific findings into accessible insights and engaging with the broader research community. I continue to engage with research in molecular virology, immune evasion, gene therapy, and genome stability, staying connected to the scientific community while building expertise in advanced therapeutic manufacturing.Let\'s connect and together, shape the future of personalised medicine and biotechnology!
