About Eldon Gath
Eldon Gath has over 30 years of experience in the identification, investigation, and remediation of geologic hazards, for land use planning, environmental assessments, field exploration, analysis, and presentations. He has particular experience with the evaluation of active faults for site development. His fault studies in CA include investigations on the San Andreas, Garlock, San Jacinto, Whittier, Elsinore, Newport-Inglewood, Palos Verdes, Hollywood, and Santa Monica faults. His international experience includes projects in Turkey, Papua New Guinea, Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama, Japan, and Taiwan. His projects in Panama on the Pedro Miguel, Gatún, & Limón faults redefined the seismic hazard of Panama and the seismic design for the Canal Expansion Project. He has represented both private and public parties in highway, harbor, landfill, housing, water infrastructure, industrial & EIR projects. He has served as a consultant and expert in litigation cases on earthquake damage, landslides, and environmental impacts, with claims in excess of $100M. He is involved in professional organizations, inc. the Assoc of Env. and Engineering Geologists (President-1997/98, the Int. Assoc of Eng Geologists & the Environment (U.S. Nat Group Leader (2014-18), and the Earthquake Eng Research Inst. For ten years he was an engineering geology member of the LA County Dept of Public Works’ Land Development Tech Advisory Comm. He represented the Geosciences on a National Research Council panel to develop a new research agenda for earthquake engineering, was a Geosciences Occupational Expert for the U.S. Dept of Labor, and is now serving on the Tech Advisory Comm to the CA Engineering Board.
