ABOUT ELANA GARTNER
I have spent over 25 years in the arts, over 5 years in education and arts education and over 10 years in volunteer and program management. My deepest passion is theater and I want to use the skills that I have learned in other sectors to help the theater community. I have always felt it is important for students, particularly female students, to see women writers as role models. It is why I participated in founding Girls Write Now which mentored teenage girls on the process of writing and it is why I work so hard to make sure that women playwrights are being produced equally throughout the world. To further support arts education, I make my work available to teachers and students on my website. My program management skills came straight from my training as a stage manager. I have built many programs: those that serve students; those that serve people with disabilities; and those that serve playwrights and theaters. I understand the complicated issues of accountability, evaluation and measuring impact. Even when managing programs already in place, I always try to improve them for future growth.
