The Publicly Engaged Action & Research Lab (PEARL) brings academic and community researchers together to collaborate on work that has community impact, is equity driven, and advances the public purpose of higher education. The goal of our work is to increase the health and well-being of our communities, organizations, schools and colleges. PEARL researchers partner locally, nationally, and internationally across a wide range of publicly engaged research and practice initiatives.

ABOUT ELAINE WARD ED. D.

More than 25 years of progressive academic and administrative experience in higher education in the US and Europe. Professor, Higher Education and Coordinator for the American Council on Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement on Teaching\'s Elective Classifications Research Lab. I serve on multiple regional, statewide, and national networks and consortia to advance community engagement and impact including the Board of Directors of United Way Massachusetts Bay; the statewide Equity and Engagement Consortium in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education; the Merrimack Valley Regional Food Security Network; and the Lawrence Mayor\'s Health Task Force. I currently serve on the National Advisory Committee for the Elective Carnegie Community Engagement Classification and was the co-PI on the first international pilot for the Carnegie Elective Community Engagement Classification. I am a past two-term board member, past conference chair for the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement. I have demonstrated success in working across all campus stakeholders, with external constituents, and am committed to bridging campus resources with student and community needs. My research interests include the institutionalization of campus-community engagement; establishing strategic campus-community partnerships; and organizational and higher education leadership for social change. I have consulted, published and presented nationally and internationally on community engagement and have led multiple grant seeking initiatives with faculty, staff and community partners.
