ABOUT ELAINE H.
I graduated from Portland State where I majored in Public Health: Community Health Promotion and minored in Child, Youth, and Family Studies. My public health interests lie around health disparities, health equity, cultural competency, higher education, and family systems. I\'m looking for opportunities in health access and equity to provide resources to underrepresented families. I also have interest in high education, DEI training/consulting, and Human Resources.I gained public health experience with the Future Public Health Leaders Program with the University of Michigan School of Public Health. I learned about social determinants of health and revising curriculum content for community health workers to use on the job at my field placement site. I still have much to learn but I\'m willing to learn and understand more about the needs of each family and individual.I started having interest in working in higher education and DEI through my job as a Student Ambassador when I was a student. I believe that it is important that students are getting the necessary resources and support while they are on their academic journey. Their voices matter and having a sense of belonging at the school that they go to shows that the people they surround themselves with care. My experience working on the Organizational Learning team at Multnomah County showed me that everyone functions differently and meeting people where they are at leads towards change actually happening at an organizational level.
