ABOUT EIRENE BINABIBA

I am a doctoral candidate and scholar at Ohio University working on the intersections of media studies, global humanitarianism, gender, and digital cultures. My work explores how digital technologies shape humanitarian responses, social movements, and power dynamics in digitally mediated spaces, with a particular focus on marginalized communities and the Global South.More specifically, I examine digital humanitarianism, social media activism, and the role of power and agency in technology-driven humanitarian efforts. My research challenges dominant Western frameworks by centering alternative epistemologies, including African philosophies, to offer decolonial perspectives on digital humanitarianism and participatory aid.Beyond academia, I have industry experience in digital media strategy, social media marketing, content creation, and digital engagement, where I leverage storytelling and digital tools to enhance visibility and impact. My expertise spans social media activism, audience growth strategies, and digital branding.I am also the founder of The ENB Foundation a nonprofit dedicated to tackling issues related to women and children in rural/marginalized communities. We focus on empowering marginalized communities (women children and youth), advancing vocational skills for economic growth and financial resilience, enhancing digital literacy, and supporting grassroots development efforts. Through this work, I engage in on-the-ground advocacy, skill training workshops, and digital initiatives that amplify local voices and foster community-driven solutions.I am passionate about ethical digital engagement, inclusivity, and reimagining technology’s role in humanitarianism and advocacy. I welcome collaborations and discussions on digital humanitarianism, development, participatory aid, and socially conscious digital strategies.
