ABOUT EILIDH FORSTER

I have a PhD in Environmental Science and Forestry at Bangor University, with a deep commitment to maximise the contribution of sustainable forestry to a circular, ‘net zero’ economy. Consultancy and project experience across multiple industry sectors have equipped me with a wealth of transferable leadership, communications and technical skills, including specialist expertise in life cycle assessment and forest modelling.A volunteer position with the Global Canopy Programme in 2014 heightened my awareness of the urgent need for action on market-driven deforestation. I created company profiles for Forest 500, a knowledge base of 500 companies and financial institutions in forest-risk supply chains. Subsequent assessment showed that 43% of these organisations did not have a commitment on deforestation at that time. This decisively influenced my PhD studies. I was awarded a competitively funded Doctoral Training Partnership scholarship to study the sustainability of a range of UK afforestation and wood use pathways by applying life cycle assessment to whole forestry-timber value chains. My research findings are published in ‘Nature Communications’, and have been presented at international conferences. I have worked as a consultant to provide carbon and circularity analysis and advice in the forestry & wood processing sectors, using life cycle assessment. I have strong interests in forestry, carbon markets, circular economy, and enhancing circular economy principles in wood value chains. I would be delighted to connect with anyone who shares my interests and enthusiasms.
