The advent of cost-effective, high-throughput genomic sequencing technologies represents an important point of inflection in global public health and the prevention and control of infectious diseases. The Public Health Alliance for Genomic Epidemiology (PHA4GE) believes in development of open source, reproducible bioinformatics, to support the development of data standards, architectures and methods for public health. I participate in the Data structures working group which focuses on the development, adaptation and standardization of data models for microbial sequence data, contextual metadata, results and workflow metrics to improve the transparency, interoperability and reproducibility of public health sequencing workflows.
