ABOUT EFRAIN ORNELAS
My passion for the last 17 years has been the area of alternative fuels, specifically around electric vehicles and platforms that can support PG & E\'s mission to provide safe and effecient delivery of energy to our customers. I\'ve worked at PG & E in a number of areas over my 35 years here, my last assignment being in the Clean Air Transportation Group before coming to my current position in PG & E\'s Fleet Engineering group, where I\'m responsible for our entire fleet of aerial bucket trucks and cable pullers that support our electric operations groups.While in the CAT group, I was focused on EV technology and charging infrastructure. I also was deeply involved in the PEV codes and standards development related to the charging coupler, vehicle to grid communications, power quality DC Fast charging and wireless charging. Some of the organization I was involved with include EPRI, SAE, ANSI, NEC, NIST and SGIP. I currently chair EPRI\'s National Electric Transportation Infrastructure Working Council that brings together a cross section of stakeholder to look at EV technology and Infrastructure issues and identify neccessary work in codes and standards that must be addressed and work with the appropriate organizations to accomplish the needed work.Specialties: Electric vehicle technologies (with current focus on medium and heavy-duty vehicles and off-road/construction applications), Electric vehicle charging infrastructure, Utility systems, PEV Codes and Standards, Smart Charging, PEV Fleet applications, Utility Service Planning, EV R&D, Spec writing for HD applications, truck idle management and expertise in utility aerial equipment.
