About Edward Patrick Akinyemi
I\'m a fundraiser and real estate developer with experience in strategic planning and financial management. I strongly believe that education is the solution to society’s problems. I have created nonprofit programming and have experience creating private-public partnerships, making a strong case for support for funding, and breaking down complex concepts into simple, understandable language. Together with my wife we run the Damon Mauk Organization - damonmauk.org - to honor our deceased son and continue his legacy. I\'m an experienced writer and content creator, with over eight years of experience in writing and content management and almost 4 years as a podcast host. I also enjoy writing data-driven research and reports - demonstrated by the Richland County State of The African American report that I wrote. I completed the Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate in November 2022. I have extensive experience in the nonprofit sector and am now a social advocate for education. I\'m advocating for high schools to teach kids skills that they\'ll actually use as adults rather than courses like algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. I\'m a real estate developer and COO of Demeter\'s Developments LLC. I\'ve created pro-formas for new projects, secured government (HUD) funding, and worked with local government for affordable housing and homeownership projects for low-income residents. I am the author of two books \"Community Heroes: What a year as an AmeriCorps VISTA member taught me about community development\" and \"You Say Soccer, I Say Football\"
