About Edward Chainani
I have parlayed over 20 years of experience in scientific research and laboratory management into managing risk in the instructional and research enterprise of the Grainger College of Engineering. Leveraging accrued knowledge and utilizing a customer-centered approach to safety, I prioritize safety education, hazard identification, and risk mitigation. Striving to embed safety into the business process, I have collaboratively established a review process with the College’s Office of Facilities to ensure that laboratory renovations and capital projects meet research goals as well as safety needs. Together, the two Offices of Facilities and Safety are involved in 21 capital projects for FY 2024 with combined budget of $400M, which will provide exciting research and instruction opportunities. I am committed to fostering connections between College departments and University safety and risk management units to foster a culture of safety and collaboration. In recognition of this effort, the University of Illinois Police Department commended my efforts in emergency preparedness with a Campus Emergency Management Recognition award. I have a strong research background with a PhD specializing in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Illinois.
