About Edward Latko
I\'m currently studying Geography at Illinois State University, where I\'m acquiring an understanding of geography, GIS, geology, coding, and mapmaking. I’m also currently a teaching assistant for a world geography class. My academic pursuits are directly aligned with my professional goal to solve spatial problems and to benefit society though my work, leveraging both my academic insights and field experience. I am highly motivated to work with a team designing outstanding cartographic/GIS products and to assist in visually understanding large scale spatial data. My interests are in geography, environmental science, GIS, hydrology, hydrogeology, geology, disaster management, national defense, transportation, and data science. I’m enthusiastic, excited, and motivated to contribute to our understanding of our beautiful planet and its complex relationships.

Summer Intern
May 2025 — Present · Lawrence, KS, US
This summer, I’ll be working as an intern for the KGS’ Hydrogeology division. I’ll be assisting with research on the High Plains most pressing issues in water conservation efforts. My work will focus on detecting and monitoring seasonal bodies of water using GIS, artificial intelligence, and more fun scientific processes to evaluate the recharge potential to the Oglala aquifer. Im grateful for the opportunity to conduct meaningful work at such a prestigious institution! Excited for what’s to come this summer!
