In my role as Agroforestry and Urban Planning advisor, I designed and delivered regionally tailored agroforestry blueprints complete with seasonal planting schedules, overstory, midstory, understory species selection, and drought-tolerant cover crops to restore soils and optimize water use across Aleppo, Damascus, and surrounding zones. I conducted in-depth site assessments, identified prime locations for a 10-hectare pistachio orchard, and developed micro-catchment and terracing plans to maximize rainwater harvesting and created detailed cost-benefit analyses itemizing land preparation, irrigation infrastructure, security measures, field crew labor, and tool requirements.

ABOUT EDWARD HWEIMEL
I design and deliver green systems that work, from Syrian pistachio orchards capturing scarce rainwater to Flagstaff landscapes that are both beautiful and climate‑ready. With a Master’s in Urban/Community Forestry and a portfolio spanning urban heat island mitigation strategies, agroforestry designs, wildfire risk mapping, large‑scale nursery operations, and public engagement, I bridge science, operations, and human connection. I’ve managed logistics for shipments, restored degraded soils with multi‑layered planting plans, and trained crews and students to work safely, inclusively, and effectively. My leadership has grown organizations by 400%, mobilized hundreds of hours of community service, and earned NAU’s prestigious Gold Axe Award.
