About Edward Guthrie

Ed Guthrie has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Opportunity Village since 1994. Prior to coming to Opportunity Village, Ed served as the Executive Director of similar organizations in upstate New York and Maryland for almost twenty years. Under his leadership, Opportunity Village has grown to become a top provider of services for people with disabilities and the community. Providing training and employment to more than people with disabilities each day, Opportunity Village cleans millions of square feet of office and commercial space and has become one of the top custodial firms in southern Nevada. OV serves more than meals each year to the military personnel at Nellis AFB, and owns the 2nd largest document destruction firm in the Las Vegas valley. Opportunity Village’s newest venture has OV producing and delivering more than cookies weekly to customers throughout the city.Specialties: Under Ed’s direction, Opportunity Village has developed a number of leading edge habilitation programs including Job Discovery program (a school-to-work transition program), the P.R.I.D.E. program (a therapeutic day treatment program for people with severe intellectual & physical disabilities) and a down-payment assistance program for people with disabilities in the purchase of their own homes.

   Recently appointed by Governor Sandoval to the Nevada Task Force on Integrated Employment, Ed has served previously for Governor Guinn who appointed him to the Nevada Governor’s Council for Rehabilitation and Employment of People with Disabilities. Ed was also appointed Chair of the Nevada Rates Task Force. Due in large part to Ed’s efforts, Governor Guinn proposed, and the Legislature passed a rate increase of 7% in FY-2004 and 8% in FY-2005 for all community rehabilitation programs and residential providers.Ed has previously served as the Chairman of the Older Americans/Disabilities Transportation Advisory Committee for the Southern Nevada Regional Transportation Commission (RTC). He was a member of the Nevada Special Needs Affordable Housing Task Force. He served as a member on the Nevada Community Health Charities Board, and is a graduate of Leadership Las Vegas, Class of 1998. He is a proud member of Las Vegas’ Southwest Rotary.Governor Gibbons appointed Ed to a 4 year term, expiring 2013, to the Interagency Advisory Board on Transition Services. This Board focuses on the issues pertaining to individuals with disabilities transitioning from secondary school to adult living. Ed is currently a member of the ACCSES Board of Directors (formerly the American Congress of Community Supports & Employment Services). ACCSES represents more than 80 partner organizations across the country as the Voice of Disability Service Providers. ACCSES works to promote and enhance community-based solutions that maximize employment and living opportunities for people with disabilities.
