About Edward Chang

For over 20 years, I have represented institutional clients in all aspects of complex commercial and consumer litigation, with an emphasis on cybersecurity, privacy, deceptive practices and unfair competition matters. I have served as lead counsel in hundreds of individual and class/mass actions, complicated business disputes, and regulatory investigations, including in bet-the-company and other high-stakes litigation. I’ve also counseled clients on their most sensitive day-to-day business and cyber/privacy issues, and led internal forensic investigations, responding to major cyber and ransomware attacks. I also provide strategic advice to C-Suite and Board members of publicly traded and large private companies and provide deal support on M&A transactions for cybersecurity and privacy diligence.I have represented clients including Experian, Hyundai, Kia, Del Taco, Lennar, Callaway Golf Company, Wells Fargo, Bank of China, Ranch 99 Markets, AutoWeb and many others in high-profile matters, including individual and nationwide data breach, privacy and other class/mass actions and arbitrations. I recently represented Kia in multiple privacy class actions and MDL proceedings arising from Kia’s relationship with LexisNexis, obtaining complete dismissals. I also represented Experian in consolidated class actions relating to the theft of millions of T-Mobile records, as well as a matter in California state court relating to the acts of international cyber thieves. My other recent engagements include representation of Del Taco in a data breach class action, obtaining an individual non-class settlement after years of protracted litigation; Hyundai and Kia in multiple government investigations; Kia in class/representative class actions challenging the company’s data collection practices, obtaining complete dismissals; Experian in multiple putative class actions and arbitrations, foreclosing class proceedings and defeating certification efforts; Lennar in a series of unfair competition and deceptive practices product defect class actions affecting millions of homes, defeating class certification; Yard House in a high-stakes business dispute, obtaining a published appellate opinion prevailing on a jurisdictional question of first impression; Intelius in numerous class cases alleging deceptive marketing practices that were later subject to significant government regulation, successfully moving to dismiss all claims; Applied in more than a dozen cross-border business disputes, including a recent action wherein Applied obtained an eight figure U.S. damages judgment.
