About Eduardo Dominguez
At Central Michigan University, I was a Multicultural Advancement Award of Distinction (MAC) Scholar. This scholarship recognizes a few select high school graduates for their dedication to the advancement of underrepresented groups in America. Through the MAC program, I was able to advocate for and create spaces where underrepresented students in STEM feel empowered. This work led me to become an avid Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) supporter. Throughout my undergraduate career, I have served on the executive board of SHPE for 4 years. In 20••••23, I served as the President and then Vice-President for the 20••••24 academic year.In order to advocate for other communities besides my own, I have also been an avid supporter for the Organization of Asian Leaders (OAL). Due to the experience gained through SHPE, I was able to assist in the transition of bank accounts to ensure OAL could secure funds. Since the MAC program gave me so much, I returned to serve as a MAC Residential College Peer Advisor where I got the privilege to assist the incoming cohort of MAC scholars in their transition to college learning. Besides the work I accomplished in the Multicultural Academic Student Services (MASS) Office as a Peer Advisor, I also taught a class titled LDR 110 - Personal Leadership and Service where I had the opportunity to educate the incoming scholars on topics ranging from Time Management to Intersectionality of Identities. Through my efforts, I was awarded the PNC Bank High Achievers Award during the 2023 annual Martin Luther King Jr. CommUNITY peace service. This award recognizes CMU student leaders who go above and beyond to make the university and wider community a better place for all. These students exemplify a commitment to making a difference in our world through a collaborative approach to diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, education, innovation, and/or entrepreneurship. As an environmental engineer, I live in the intersection of affordable energy and human health. Through my coursework, I gained a deeper understanding for the proper management of water, soil, and air pollution as well as ways to mitigate pollution at its source. By combining sound engineering with innovative sustainability practices, I hope to develop a career in the energy sector to continue to provide affordable energy without sacrificing environmental quality.
