ABOUT ED MILNES

I am an Independent Chartered Ergonomics and Human Factors (EHF) consultant. My background is providing Ergonomics and Human Factors support to the UK H&S regulators (Health & Safety Inspectors and Local Authority Environmental Health Officers). I worked in HSE for over 15 years as an Ergonomics and Human Factors Specialist Inspector. I now work freelance providing support to Industry. I have two business \'hats\'- Guildford Ergonomics Ltd (which is my general occupational ergonomics consultancy,) and Mobile Office Ltd, which I run with my colleague Sarah Tapley, and which provides mobile DSE risk management and consultancy. The main areas of my work in are:> Musculoskeletal risk assessment (Manual Handling, Upper Limb and Lower Limb risk assessments),> Workstation assessment and design,> Mobile DSE risk assessment and risk management Office based DSE risk assessments,> Development and optimisation of work procedures (SOPs, SMPs, etc.),> Workplace lighting and visibility,> Human Reliability Assessment (foreseeability of risk taking behaviour and human failure, identification of performance shaping factors and behavioural antecedents and consequences, Identification and development of behavioural risk controls). My consultancies are directed at:> Ensuring that clients\' staff are able to work at their best, in safe and healthy arrangements,> Helping duty holders comply with their legal duties relating to Ergonomics and Human Factors,> Working with duty holders to move towards industry best practice.
