With my longtime creative partner, I do brand work for mission-driven schools, universities, and other nonprofits. I started working in this field in 2007, and over the years I\'ve written positioning statements, taglines, websites, magazine articles, viewbooks, and case statements. I\'ve named campaigns and programs. I\'ve even renamed a college. I always start my work simply, by listening, reading everything, and taking notes. I talk to people one-on-one and in groups. I work with a research braintrust to ground strategy in data. I use writing to clarify thoughts - my own and those of others - and put ideas into words that convey what an institution is and does. I work to get it right. Then that foundational work - whether it takes the form of a messaging doc or a creative brief - drives communications, marketing, and fundraising, whether our clients do the work in-house or hire us to collaborate on creative execution with admission, advancement, or comms teams. The work I do is varied, challenging, custom-tailored, and highly relational. I get to work with leaders who bring immense passion and intelligence to what they do. And I love it. Learn more at
